New Delhi: The success ratio of lunar missions undertaken in the last six decades is 60 per cent, according to US space agency NASA’s ‘Moon Fact Sheet’. Of the 109 lunar missions during the period, 61 were successful, and 48 had failed, it stated. In the early hours of Saturday, Indian space agency ISRO’s plan to soft-land Chandrayaan-2’s Vikram module on the lunar surface did not go as per script. The lander lost communication with ground stations during its final descent. ISRO officials said, adding that the orbiter of Chandrayaan-2 -second lunar mission – remains healthy and safe. From 1958 to 2019, India as well as the US, the USSR (now Russia), Japan, the European Union, China and Israel launched different lunar missions – from orbiters, landers and flyby (orbiting the Moon, landing on the Moon and flying by the Moon). The first mission to the Moon was planned by the US on August 17, 1958, but the launch of Pioneer 0 was unsuccessful. The first successful mission to the Moon was Luna 1 by the USSR on January 4, 1959. It was also the first ‘Moon flyby’ mission. The success had come only in the sixth mission.

MinniA Barguna court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition of Aysha Siddika Minni in a case filed in connection with the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif, reports UNB.District and sessions judge Md Asaduzzaman passed the order after a four-hour hearing.Thirty lawyers, including Ain o Salish Kendra’s advocate Abdur Rashid, advocate Nina Goshwami, and advocate Shahida Talukder of Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST), stood for Minni.Thirty other lawyers represented the state, said public prosecutor advocate Bhuban Chandra Hawlader.The court summoned investigating officer Inspector Md Humayun Kabir at 1:00pm after the first phase of the hearing. It rejected Minni’s petition at 3:05pm after the second phase of hearing.Minni, arrested on 16 July, was first denied bail by Barguna senior judicial magistrate Sirajul Islam Gazi on 21 July. Two days later, the court fixed 30 July for the hearing her repeated bail petition.Aysha Siddika’s husband Rifat Sharif, 22, was attacked with sharp weapons near the main gate of Barguna Government College on 26 June. She appeared to be trying to protect him during the attack.Police have so far arrested 16 people over the murder.The main accused Sabbir Ahmed alias Nayan Bond was killed in a reported gunfight with law enforcement on 2 July.Minni reportedly confessed to her involvement in the murder before the court on 19 July, two days after her arrest.Her father Mozammel Hossain met her in jail on 20 July and alleged that she had been forced to confess and accused a vested group of trying to divert the course of the case.
